The administrative assistant training program provides students with the skills they need to prepare for a career in this field. Secretaries and administrative assistants perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties that are necessary to run an organization efficiently. They use computer software to create spreadsheets, interact with databases, and prepare presentations, reports, and documents. They also may negotiate with vendors, buy supplies, and manage stockrooms or corporate libraries.
Students have the option to add a career specialization track to their Administrative Assistant program, in the areas of Project Coordinator, Social Media Manager, Professional Bookkeeper, Human Resource Assistant, or Legal Secretary.

Business Administration – Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (Optional Management and Marketing focused electives)

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration requires the prior completion of the AAS degree either at ABTU or another appropriately accredited institution. This program prepares individuals to face the management and administrative challenges encountered in the current high-tech global environment. The core courses in the program are designed to provide the student with the statistical analysis, economics, business law, accounting and finance knowledge and skills to identify and analyze business issues; the marketing abilities to develop functional solutions; and the management disciplines to implement and maintain those solutions. The general education components of the program augment these abilities from the obvious courses in technical writing, business psychology, and safety and health in the workplace, to the indirect influences of political and environmental science. Students may choose optional management or marketing courses to fulfill their elective requirements.

Healthcare – Specialist Certificate (Optional tracks in Medical Administrative Assistant, Billing and Coding, and Electronic Health Records)

The Healthcare Specialist Certificate program provides the foundational skills and knowledge needed for students to enter the healthcare field or to add additional skills and credentials for those already working in the field. The knowledge and skills gained allow students to function as a productive and valuable member of the health care team. Students are stressed the importance of contributing to the wellbeing of the patient by demonstrating professional competency in their chosen specialty. Information Technology – Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (Optional Networking focused electives)

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Information Technology program requires the prior completion of the AAS degree either at ABTU or another appropriately accredited institution. This program introduces students to IT concepts including hardware, business and productivity software, operating systems, networking, programming, and information security, and reinforces concepts and techniques through practical application. As student’s progress into advanced IT courses in database administration, systems architecture, and systems design, students can tailor the program to fit their educational and career needs by bringing concentration courses from associate and certificate programs into the elective category then selecting the networking concentration or other courses of interest to meet the program semester credit requirements above.
