Attendance Policy

Attendance

Attendance is defined as participating in a live, interactive lecture and making a quality contribution to the class discussion with the instructors and peer students directly related to course content. A student is required to attend at least 120 minutes per course per week and is encouraged to attend all lectures. A student is responsible for watching the recordings for any lectures he or she may have missed and answer class discussion questions that engage them in the actual lecture they missed to earn attendance for those lectures. It is required that a student attend a live lecture, or view the recording, and post responses to class discussion questions, during the first week of the course. Failing to attend at least one live lecture or view a recording during the first week, and post responses to discussion questions, may result in a student’s cancellation.

 

Attendance Warning

A student’s grade is affected by attendance in two ways.  First, attendance of lectures helps the student to better understand concepts, terms, and application of material.  Second, ten percent (10%) of the student’s grade is based on attendance.

 

A student who does not attend live or recorded lectures and post responses to class discussions, should expect the following:

  • First Week: The student will be contacted by Student Success department for advisement.
  • Second Week: The Success department will contact the student via e-mail and he or she will be warned of possible dismissal for non-compliance.
  • Third Week: If the student fails to attend a live lecture or view a recording, and post responses to discussion questions for three (3) weeks in a row and also fails to attend a one-on-one tutoring session, the student will be dismissed for non-compliance.

 

A student may be required to sign an Academic Activity Acknowledgement at any time if he or she fails to maintain attendance. If the student does not sign this document, he or she may be dismissed for non-compliance.

 

If a student is dismissed for this reason, his or her last date of attendance is determined by the last date of academic activity.
