Applying for Financial Aid

In order to determine if a student might be eligible for federal financial assistance, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted. The Financial Aid Office strongly recommends that this process begins at least two (2) weeks prior to the first day of classes. Continuing students should complete the yearly FAFSA by May 15.

During the application process at ABTU, students that would like to receive financial aid will be asked to complete the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO) (http://abtu.edu/online/financial-aid/)  interview at ABTU’s website. The VFAO is the first place to apply for federal aid. One of the first questions asked in the interview is, “Have you completed your FAFSA?”  If you have not, you may click on the link to be directed to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA requires that you have your latest year’s tax information and if you are a dependent student you will need your parent(s) tax information as well.

Once the interview is complete you will need to enter your password a second time to confirm the information you have entered. The Financial Aid office at ABTU will confirm your student status once the interview is complete and your FAFSA is received. It takes three (3) to five (5) business days for the FAFSA to be sent to the school.

If the student finds that additional funding is needed, the student may apply for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. To apply for Direct Loans, go to www.studentloans.gov . The site requires the PIN number that you received when you filed your FAFSA to create an account. After logging in, a menu appears on the left side of the screen. Choose the option to complete the MPN. The MPN is the Master Promissory Note, or promise to repay the loans.

The Virtual Financial Aid Office is a third-party that ABTU uses to process our Financial Aid packages. They will send any correspondence from their office directly to the student’s e-mail address that was entered on the interview. The student must have a valid e-mail account.
