Academic Channels

 

ABTU subscribes to the notion of following channels in its organization for resolving differences in the classroom.

 

  • Step 1: The student must contact his or her instructor when there is a question, concern, or difference in opinion to find a common-ground solution. The instructor and the student should engage in a dialogue to exhaust all possible opportunities for resolution. This is generally the best course of action for resolution because both parties are closest to the information and issue or question.
  • Step 2: If a resolution cannot be found with the instructor after a good faith effort by both parties, then the student may submit an e-mail describing the situation in detail to the Resolution Committee. All information pertaining to the issue will be reviewed and a response will be provided to the student.
  • Step 3: If no resolution can be found at the department chair level, then the student may submit a formal letter to the Executive Committee detailing the circumstances of the question or concern. The committee will collect data from all parties in order to find a resolution. The process may include calling a meeting between the student and instructor. The decision of the Executive Committee is final.

 

All students are expected to follow the correct channels in the resolution process. Instructors and students are expected to work cooperatively and collaboratively in resolving questions and/or concerns. Communication is a key element in resolution of questions or concerns. All parties are expected to give a sincere effort to the resolution process.
