In order to deliver a rich learning experience to our students, ABTU adopted a comprehensive delivery system which consists of multiple components:

  • Interactive Class-There are two online lectures per week, for most classes, which tend to take place on Monday’s and Wednesday’s, or Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. A typical lecture is three and a half hours long. To accommodate the working adult and military personnel, lectures are conducted in the evening, with most starting at 6:00pm, Central Standard Time (CST). Live lectures can be attended on a personal computer, but are also compatible with most mobile devices for student convenience.
  • ABTU E-Learn-Using their username and password to login, E-Learn is set up for students to utilize all the components of the classroom such as; participation in audio lecture, reviewing of study materials, sending and receiving messages, completing assignments, discussing study materials with fellow students, taking online tests, and communicating with teachers.
  • Online Tests-Each week students will take an online test which covers the material learned for that week. Each test lasts an hour, and can be completed anytime between Friday and Sunday at midnight, of the respective week. After completing the test, your score will be displayed on the screen, and a copy will be sent to your instructor.
  • Video Tutorials-In addition to the instructor’s explanations during live lectures, courses are accompanied with online supplemental material such as; video aids, study aids, downloadable examples, tutoring, and more. Students can view these materials at their convenience to help ensure success while attending ABTU.
  • Recorded Lectures-All live lectures are recorded and posted on ABTU’s E-Learn platform, allowing students to replay the lecture at any time and as often as they need it.

Why do you not have liberal arts degrees?

We focus on career fields that are reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov) to have a growing trend over the next 2-5 years. Historically liberal arts jobs do not always lead to gainful employment. You will notice that ABTU degrees are specialty degrees that focus on specific areas and industries that are growing.

What is your student to faculty ratio?

The average for 2014 is 8 students to 1 faculty member. ABTU limits class sizes to be no more than 30 students in one course at a maximum so you get consistent contact with your instructor.

Who will benefit from this type of education/training?

Everyone can benefit from our innovative, interactive, and online education. In particular, working adults and military personnel, who cannot work with the strict scheduling of traditional colleges and universities, tend to benefit the most. Single parents who are time-stricken, and people looking to make career changes for high-in-demand fields, also find our University to be an excellent fit for them. Is my online education as valuable as a traditional campus education?

Absolutely. ABTU is accredited through the DEAC (Distance Education Accrediting Commission), and is listed on CHEA’s (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) website as an institution accredited by a recognized United States accrediting organization. Along with this, ABTU’s programs are developed as a result of the founder and staff’s teaching experience on college campus settings, as well as their technical expertise. What if I can not attend the lecture at a specific time?

All online lectures are recorded and posted on our site, allowing students to view the lecture at any time, and review it as necessary. ABTU has two live lectures per week, per class. To maintain good academic standing, the student must view one live lecture per course, per week.

How much time will my education require?

This will vary, based on the level of degree you are pursuing. Based on surveys gathered from graduated students, if a student is going full-time (two courses) they can expect to spend 25 hours or more a week on their education. This includes viewing live lectures, recorded lectures, outside study time, projects, tests, assignments, and any other school related matters. If a student is pursuing half-time (one course) the gathered surveys suggested 15 hours per week would be needed to succeed.

What are my chances of landing a job after graduation?

ABTU, like all universities, cannot promise students a job after they graduate. What we can promise is an innovative and interactive online platform, which delivers degrees that are in high-demand from today’s major employers. The technology and business fields have never been more promising, and there has never been a more promising platform of online education.

ABTU students will also have access to the Student Success Services, who don’t only work with you throughout your ABTU career, but also after your education with us has ended. Students will receive training in; creating a resume, how to write cover letters, how to search for employment, how to make a lasting impression in interviews, and much more. Graduates are also offered one-on-one career services and assistance in identifying prospective job positions in their geographical area. The Alumni website also offers networking, online chat, and a chart of other alumni which contains the graduate and their employer’s spotlight.

All these tools are made available to help provide our students with a better chance at succeeding their individual goals.

What are the technical requirements for admission?

Students are expected to use a desktop or laptop with the following specifications:

  • Minimum Technical Specifications
  • Windows Operating System: Windows 7 or later
  • Mac Operating System: OSX 10.8/Mountain Lion or laterm
  • Students in the Computer Programming & Systems Design program will need to install dual software (paralells), which allows for Windows functions to be performed on non-windows platforms.
  • Home high speed internet with 1GB minimum download speed.

Best Practices

Participating in live lectures is an important aspect of attending American Business and Technology University. The following best practices outline tips and suggestions for successfully attending ABTU:

  • Many students find greater satisfaction in live-online lectures, if they use two computer monitors simultaneously. Most laptops and PCs have the capability to connect to a 2nd monitor through HDMI or VGA inputs. One monitor can be used for participating in live lectures and the other for viewing PowerPoint’s, following along in the textbook, and other course material.
  • Utilizing a headset with built in microphone, allows for smooth communication with the instructor and classmates, and can eliminate background distractions and noise. (ABTU will provide this upon request).

 

Do you offer Financial Aid?

ABTU is pleased to announce that it has been approved by the Department of Education early 2010 to offer Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funding). Financial Aid is available to those who qualify; To see how much you qualify for, complete the online FAFSA application, our school code is: 041187

I have bad credit, do I still qualify for federal funding?

Federal funding is not subject to credit rating. All Americans and permanent residents may qualify. Visit the FAFSA website to find out more about federal funding.

Are there any Tax Benefits for going to ABTU?

Yes, there are two tax credit bills for higher education; Hope Tax Credit, and Life-long learning Tax Credit. You can get more information on the IRS website using this link: Tax Credit for Education! Or check with your accountant.

Are ABTU credits transferable?

When attempting to transfer credits from ABTU to another College, one must keep in mind that accepting credits is dependent on the policy of the receiving College. ABTU is nationally accredited by the DETC, and ABTU’s programs and courses have been approved by the US Department of Education, the Veterans Administration, and the Missouri Department of Higher Education, however, I would check with the college you plan to attend to further your education about their credit transfer policy, before you enroll at ABTU.
